I’ll share some of the best SEO niches for this year in this article. The key to ranking on the search engines is picking a broad niche, drilling down into a less competitive niche, starting small, and working your way up. Once you build your domain authority, you’ll be able to compete in the broader topics.
I’ve been researching and writing about SEO for over ten years and have found many ways to make money online through blogging. The most popular way is by creating high-quality content that ranks well in Google’s search engine. This can be done for many blogs, such as food, fitness, travel, business, etc.
I used Google Trends and my favorite SEO tool for this list: SEMrush. Using these comprehensive tools, I could find traffic trends, top-ranking websites, and the best SEO niches for blogs.
Here are some of the best niche markets to build your blog and SEO strategy. Using my research tools, I also share the website builder, if available, the domain authority score according to SEMrush (correlates with the backlink profile), and other public data that may provide insight into what works in that niche to rank on Google.
Food Niches
Nowadays, people are more likely to look for recipes or meal ideas than buy groceries. If you’re passionate about cooking, building a site around sharing your favorite recipes will help you get traffic from new visitors and returning readers. While food is a competitive niche, drilling down can help you find search terms with less competition.
If you want to start a website in the food niche, here are some great topics to consider:
Keto Diet Niche
The keto diet blogs are booming because they work so well for weight loss. You can write about how to lose weight using the keto diet, which foods work best when following the keto diet, and other related topics.
The Diet Doctor is a good example of a Keto Diet Niche Website that ranks high on page one of Google. According to SEMrush, this website has a domain authority of 66 and organically earns more than 1 million visits from the search engine every month (which means earned in, not from ads).
He often ranks in the top 3 positions on Google for Keto, Keto Diet, and Keto Recipes. The website runs on the WordPress website builder.
Low-Carb Diet Niche
Another great topic is low-carb diets. People are always looking for healthier options. If you can provide them with information about what they should eat to stay healthy while still enjoying their favorite foods, you could see huge traffic coming from these searches.
Although a low-carb diet and the keto diet are not necessarily the same thing, Google has also given the authority prize to the Diet Doctor on this one.
Instant Pot Recipes Niche
Instant Pots are becoming increasingly popular, but not everyone knows how to use them. If you know how to cook with an instant pot, you can create a blog post series where you teach others how to use their instant pots.
I saw an interview once about a woman who paid off her mortgage based on the profits from her daily crock pot recipe blog.
Using SEMrush, I was able to perform research for the phrase “Instant pot recipes”. The monthly search volume globally is around 200K. The top keyword phrases for this niche are Instant pot recipes, Instant pot chicken recipes, and easy instant pot recipes.
While this niche doesn’t offer much buyer intent, it can be monetized nicely with display ads.
Amy and Jacky of Pressure Cooker Recipes are my top pick for a niche website in this space done well. I like that they went with “pressure cooker” vs. insta pot for their domain name, bringing in the term instant pot where appropriate. This is also proof that you don’t need a target keyword in the domain name to rank well for that term.
This food blog is built on WordPress and has a SEMrush AS (authority score) of 56. It gets around 650,000 organic visits from Google each month. Its top pages earn traffic from Keyword rank for terms like Instant Pot rice, Instant Pot recipes, and California roll.
The website is monetized with display ads by Cafemedia food publishers.
Healthy Food Blogs
There are tons of health bloggers out there who are willing to share their knowledge with others. If you can figure out how to combine your love of eating healthy food with your passion for teaching others, you can easily become a top blogger in your niche.
With an authority score of 54, Meaningful Eats earns nearly 300,000 monthly visitors from Google. Focused on gluten-free healthy recipes, the blog tops the Google ranks for terms like gluten-free cookies, gluten-free chocolate chip cookies, and gluten-free meals.
The site is built on WordPress and is monetized with display ads managed by Mediavine.
Paleo Diet Niche
A paleo diet is a great option for those looking for an alternative to the keto diet. You can write about the benefits of the paleo diet, share recipes, and provide tips on how to stick to the diet.
Not unlike the Keto and low-carb niche, the Paleo Diet and appropriate recipes make a great food blog niche. While the main keyword “Paleo Diet” would be nearly impossible to rank a new website for due to the keyword difficulty (competition), there are many long-tail keyword phrases that could offer opportunities.
I chose the PaleoDiet.com website for this example, as it has topical authority, and ranks well on Google. This website ranks high on Google for terms like Paleo diet, Paleo recipes, and for the question ‘What is the Paleo diet”.
The food blog has more than 700 pages ranking in the top 100 page positions on Google.
It was built on WordPress and is (or was) running WooCommerce, and Mailchimp. This website is using lead magnets to build an email list, which is smart marketing.
I use Mailerlite + Optinmonster on my websites to build an email list from my blogs. While open rates and click rates have declined over the years, email is still a top method for generating recurring visits to the website, and converting affiliate offers.
Veganism
There are many reasons why veganism is a great topic for an SEO blog. For one, it is a growing trend that more and more people are interested in. This means that there is a lot of potential for new vegans to find your blog and learn from your content.
Furthermore, veganism is also a very niche topic, which means that there is less competition in the SEO space. This gives you a great opportunity to rank highly for relevant keywords and get in front of your target audience.

With more than 10 million (yes million) visitors per month, Love and Lemons is an excellent example of a vegetarian food blog done right.
The website ranks on page one of Google for keywords like healthy breakfast ideas, spaghetti squash recipes, and how long to boil eggs. It was built on WordPress and is monetized with display ads managed by Cafemedia.

This website earns nearly 4 million organic visits each month from Google searches and has a whopping authority score of 70. With nearly 5 million backlinks, it’s clearly the authority in the space. 23% of the traffic earned by Google is considered branded. Brand searches appear when someone searches for a brand name rather than a keyword.
Besides the keywords bodybuilding and body builder, this niche website brings in visits from organic google traffic for the phrases: bicep workouts, macro calculator, and shoulder workouts. The website focuses on product sales and memberships.
Crossfit: Crossfit is a popular workout routine that is growing in popularity. Crossfitters are always looking for new information about the sport, and there is a lot of competition among bloggers to be the first to post new content. Additionally, there are many affiliate programs available for Crossfit-related products, making it a lucrative niche for bloggers.
Weight Loss: There are a few reasons why weight loss would be a great blog topic to create right now for SEO purposes. It has more than 6,000 pages ranking in the top 100 positions on Google which goes to show you that content is still king.
